Sport
Gares is home to a renowned cross-country ski ring – the “Franco Manfroi” Cross-Country Center – where national and international ski competitions are held periodically.
During the summer season, on the other hand, the Valley is teeming with hikers, hunting for scenic trails, or simple visitors who enjoy the many picnic areas, and spend days surrounded by nature. Finally, the Gares Valley offers those who love bicycles a beautiful and functional bicycle and pedestrian pathway.
Pilgrimages
Canale d’Agordo is the birthplace of Albino Luciani, known to most as Pope John Paul I, the so-called “Pope of the smile”. If you wish to learn more about his history, as well as that of his hometown, the Papa Luciani Foundation organizes thematic guided tours.
The historic Tabià
Despite being small, Canale d’Agordo is rich in attractions and characteristic for numerous reasons. Among these are its old barns, called Tabià. These are typical, wooden constructions used in the past for animals. In neighboring villages they can be found, even quite isolated, along the highways, while in Canale they are mixed with the houses, in the town center. The Tabià are very dated: the newest is 70 years old, the oldest 300.
